At this year's Tokyo Game Show, Square Enix debuted a new trailer for Final Fantasy XIII, its highly anticipated role-playing game slated to arrive for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Aside from the eye candy, Square Enix's trailer also offered the tantalizing promise of a 2009 launch date.
Unfortunately, that promise of a 2009 release apparently applies only to Japan, given that the game isn't going to make it to the US or Europe until the second quarter of 2010 at the very earliest. The news emerged as Square Enix, the game's developer, delivered projections for the remainder of its current fiscal year, which ends March 31.
Square Enix president Yoichi Wada told Reuters that the game was on track for a 2009 PS3-exclusive launch in Japan, with international launches for the Xbox 360 and PS3 coming "in the business year from April 2010 or later."

Tomb Raider Underworld marks the second time the Eidos adventure series crossed the Nintendo DS path, and thanks to a new team at the helm this edition is a much improved and more faithful Tomb Raider experience on the handheld. The portable rendition isn't quite as fulfilling or epic as the console games even though the DS game shares the identical story and similar puzzle elements, but it's a nice throwback to the Prince of Persia inspiration thanks to solid 2D design. Â The last time Lara Croft, the buxom but well-educated treasure-hunting tomb raider, skittered across a Nintendo DS screen was in Tomb Raider: Legend. It was a unique attempt at offering a portable adventure but pretty much missing the boat with a strange mix of 2D and 3D elements that, while offering a playable experience, never seemed to gel. An OK game, but it was clear that a better team could do a better job. |

What we heard: It's a sordid affair when superheroes begin dishing on their secrets. Tell one person in confidence, and the next day, Bruce Wayne's got photographers swarming his cave, asking about the legal implications of having a vigilante CEO heading up Wayne Enterprises, inquiring about the gas mileage on the Batmobile. Â Sony Online Entertainment may be experiencing a similar situation this week. In a recent interview with MTV, DC Universe Online writer and notable comic scribe Geoff Johns casually disclosed that Sony's upcoming superhero massively multiplayer online role-playing game is expected to arrive for the PlayStation 3 and PC by 2010. |
